Today I had a Wonderful breakfast. It was super easy and healthy. I took about 1/2 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of yogurt (I used Blackberry light yogurt), about 1/2 cup of mixed berries (frozen, **mixed berries NOT mixed fruit) and 1/2 frozen banana and put it in a blender (I use the Magic Bullet because its easy and convenient.)
It is a delicious vitamin packed smoothie! YUM

Start it off right
To start the year off right, I made a trip to Whole Foods to get some healthy food. I decided I wanted to make a vegetable soup that incorporates the traditional New Years Day food.
I got all kind of different organic vegetables for the soup. I got parsnips, eggplant, kale, tomatoes, corn, red peppers, and onions. I also picked up some black eyed peas and chick peas for some fiber and protein in the soup. I got two andouille sausages from the butcher counter to start the soup with tons a flavor and some fat. I used the fat of the sausages to saute all of the vegetables for the soups. I added a little bit of tomato sauce and a lot of beef stock to give the soup the right consistency. I moved everything from the pot into a slow cooker and cooked it for a few hours. Toward the end of the cooking process, I added the chick peas and the black eyed peas along with some cooked orzo.
The soup was delicious! It was also really packed with the vitamins, protein and fiber that I am looking to add to my diet. It was a really flavorful soup that was also very low in fat, sodium, and "bad carbs."
I good start to a healthier lifestyle.

It's the New Year! 2013
SO its the New Year, 2013! Instead of the normal "lose weight this year" new years resolution, I have decided to make a different type of resolution. I'm hoping that instead of just this years resolution it will become a lifestyle change for me. I want to eat more HEALTHY.
I am not talking about counting calories or points, cutting out carbs, or only eating at home. I am talking about trying to eat more nutritious, organic, and overall better quality food. I'm not sticking to any crazy rules and I am certainly not considering this a "diet." I just want to eat more- better quality, more organic and healthy food.
